Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 22, 2026

UnitedRigs (unitedrigs.com) is run by [COMPANY LEGAL NAME], a [STATE] [corporation / LLC] (“UnitedRigs”, “we”, “us”). This policy explains what information we collect when you use unitedrigs.com, what we do with it, who else touches it, and the choices you have. We wrote it in plain English on purpose. If anything is unclear, email [privacy@unitedrigs.com].

The short version

  • We collect what you give us (your account, comments, broker reviews, Wall of Shame uploads, stories you send us) and the basic technical information every website receives (like your IP address).
  • We don’t sell your information. We don’t run ad trackers that follow you around the internet.
  • Your account and posts are stored on our own website. A few services help us run it — our web host, our video host, Google or Facebook if you sign in with them, and a spam filter. They’re all listed below.
  • What you post publicly (comments, reviews, uploads) is public. You can post reviews and uploads as “UnitedRigs member” instead of your name.
  • We strip location data out of photos and videos before we save them.
  • You can get a copy of your data, fix it, or have your account deleted at any time.

1. Information you give us

Your account. When you join, we collect a username, your email address and a password (stored only in scrambled, “hashed” form — we can’t see it). You can add a first and last name and a display name in your profile.

Signing in with Google or Facebook. If you choose “Continue with Google” or “Continue with Facebook”, that company tells us your name, email address, profile picture and an account ID, so we can create and recognize your account. We never receive your Google or Facebook password, your friends, your contacts or your posts, and we don’t post anything on your behalf. We use this information only to sign you in and run your UnitedRigs account.

Comments. When you comment on a story we collect what you write, the name and email you enter (or those on your account), and your IP address and browser type (used to fight spam — see “Spam filtering” below).

Broker reviews. When you add a broker, vote thumbs up or down, write a review or report a review, we store what you submitted, your account, and the date. Reviews include the details you enter: star rating, how you were paid, whether you’d haul for them again, the month of the load, and your written review.

Wall of Shame. When you upload to the Wall of Shame we store your photos or video (or the link you paste), the title and story you write, the type, road, state and month you pick, your account, and your confirmation that you followed the rules. When you react to or report a post, we store your reaction or report with your account.

Stories, tips and messages. When you use the Share Your Story or contact forms, the name, email and message you enter are emailed to us. Only include what you’re comfortable sharing.

Newsletter. If you sign up for our email updates, we store your email address (and name, if you give it) and when you confirmed. Signing up is always optional and nothing is pre-ticked.

2. Information collected automatically

  • Technical information: like every website, our server receives your IP address, browser and device type, the page you asked for and the time. Our web host keeps these server logs for security and troubleshooting.
  • Activity on the site: to run Driver Ranks we keep a record of the points you earn (for example “broker review, +10, September 22”). This comes from things you did on the site, not from tracking you anywhere else.
  • Cookies and similar storage: see section 9.

3. Information from public records

Broker pages show company information from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s public FMCSA records: the company’s legal and trade name, city, state, USDOT and MC numbers, and operating status. Those public records also contain officers’ names, phone numbers and emails — we don’t store or show any of that.

4. How we use information

  • To run the site: your account, sign-in, comments, broker reviews, the Wall of Shame, reactions, reports and Driver Ranks.
  • To review and moderate content before or after it goes up, and to act on reports.
  • To send you emails you need (account and password emails, “your upload is live”) and the newsletter if you signed up.
  • To read and follow up on stories, tips and messages you send us, including for reporting.
  • To keep the site safe: stopping spam, fake accounts, abuse and attacks.
  • To follow the law and respond to valid legal requests.

We don’t use your information for targeted advertising and we don’t build profiles of you to sell.

5. What other people can see

  • Public by design: comments, broker reviews, vote counts, Wall of Shame posts, reaction counts and your Driver Rank badge are visible to anyone, and search engines can find them.
  • Your name: reviews, uploads and the Top Drivers leaderboard show your first name and last initial. Comments show your display name. If you haven’t added a first name, your display name is used everywhere — WordPress sets it to your username until you change it in your profile. Your email address is never shown.
  • Posting as “UnitedRigs member”: when you choose this for a review or upload, your name and rank badge are hidden from the public. We still know which account posted it, and we may have to reveal it if a court orders us to.
  • Leaderboard: you can keep yourself off the Top Drivers leaderboard in your profile (“Keep me off the public Top Drivers leaderboard”).
  • Profile pictures come from Gravatar (see section 7) or the picture Google or Facebook gave us.

6. Photos and videos

  • Location removed: phones hide the GPS location where a photo or video was taken inside the file. We remove that location data from photos and from video files before we save them. Files are also renamed, so nothing from your phone ends up in the web address.
  • Checked before it goes up: every Wall of Shame upload waits for approval and isn’t shown publicly until we approve it.
  • Videos: videos you upload go directly from your device to our video host, Bunny Stream (section 7), which stores them, converts them so they play on all devices, and plays them on our pages. Photos are stored on our own website.
  • No face recognition: we don’t scan faces or collect biometric identifiers (such as face geometry) from photos or videos.
  • If you, your truck or your company appears in a post: Wall of Shame posts show what members recorded in public places, which can include vehicles, license plates, company names and people. If you appear in a post and want it reviewed, use the “Is this you or your company? Contact us” link on the post or email [privacy@unitedrigs.com] with the post’s link. We’ll take the post down while we look at it when there’s a good reason, and remove it if it breaks our rules or the law.

7. Who we share information with

We don’t sell personal information, and we don’t share it for targeted (“cross-context behavioral”) advertising. We share it only with the companies that help us run the site, only what they need, and in these situations:

  • Web hosting — Name.com: our website, database, photos and email run on Name.com’s servers in the United States.
  • Video hosting — Bunny Stream (BunnyWay d.o.o., Slovenia): stores and plays videos uploaded to the Wall of Shame. Bunny’s servers are located around the world so videos load quickly. When you watch a video, your browser connects to Bunny. Bunny’s privacy policy.
  • Sign-in — Google and Facebook (Meta): only if you choose to sign in with them. See section 1 for exactly what we receive.
  • Spam filtering — Akismet (Automattic Inc.): comments are checked by Akismet, which receives the comment, the name, email and website entered, and your IP address and browser information. Automattic says it keeps most of this data between two weeks and 90 days. Automattic’s privacy policy.
  • Profile pictures — Gravatar (Automattic Inc.): WordPress may send a scrambled (hashed) version of your email address to Gravatar to show the picture you set up there, if any.
  • Embedded videos and posts: Wall of Shame posts can show videos from YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, Vimeo or Threads. When you open a page with one of those, your browser connects to that company, which may set its own cookies and collect information under its own privacy policy — just as if you visited their site.
  • WordPress.org: some emoji images are loaded from WordPress.org’s servers, which receive your IP address.
  • Sponsors and links: if you click a sponsor link or any link to another website, that site’s own privacy policy applies.
  • Legal reasons: if the law requires it — for example a valid subpoena or court order — or to protect people’s safety, our rights, or the site. When the law allows, we’ll try to tell you first.
  • If the business changes hands: if UnitedRigs is sold or merged, member information could transfer to the new owner, who would have to follow this policy or tell you about changes.
  • With your permission in any other case.

8. Emails

Account emails (like password resets and “your upload is live”) are part of having an account. The newsletter is separate and optional: you confirm your sign-up by email, and every newsletter has an unsubscribe link that works in one click. Unsubscribing doesn’t affect your account.

9. Cookies and similar storage

Cookies are small files your browser keeps for a website. We use only the ones the site needs:

  • Sign-in cookies (names starting with wordpress_logged_in_, wordpress_sec_, and wordpress_test_cookie): keep you signed in. They last for the session, or about two weeks if you tick “Remember me”.
  • Comment cookies (comment_author_…): only if you tick “Save my name, email, and website” on the comment form, so you don’t have to type them again. They last about a year.
  • Cookie-choice cookie: remembers the choice you made on our cookie banner.
  • Upload progress: when you upload a video, your browser saves a small note about the upload in its own storage so it can pick up where it left off if the signal drops. It contains no personal information, and you can clear it with your browser data.
  • Other companies’ cookies: embedded videos and posts (section 7) and Google/Facebook sign-in may set their own cookies when you use them.

We don’t use advertising cookies or analytics that track you across other websites. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; if you block sign-in cookies you won’t be able to sign in.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control: because we don’t track you across websites or sell your information, the site works the same whether or not your browser sends a “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signal. We treat a Global Privacy Control signal as a request not to sell or share your information — which we already don’t do.

10. How long we keep information

  • Your account and points history: until you delete your account or ask us to.
  • Comments, reviews and Wall of Shame posts: until they’re removed — by you (ask us), by us, or after reports. When you delete your account, your posts are deleted or kept without your name; tell us which you prefer.
  • Uploads that were started but never sent: deleted automatically after about a day.
  • Reactions, votes and reports: as long as the post or review they belong to exists, or until you delete your account.
  • Stories, tips and messages: as long as we need them to follow up or report; ask us to delete yours.
  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
  • Server logs and spam-check data: kept by our host and by Akismet for the limited periods in their own policies.

We may keep information longer if the law requires it or it’s needed for a legal claim.

11. Your choices and rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

  • See and get a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct it. You can change most of it yourself in your profile.
  • Delete it, including your whole account — see our account and data deletion page.
  • Take down a post or review you made, or one that shows you (section 6).
  • Stop emails (unsubscribe link, or ask us).

Email [privacy@unitedrigs.com] from the email address on your account. To protect you, we confirm requests by email before acting on them. We answer within 30 days. If we say no to a request, we’ll tell you why, and you can reply to ask us to look at it again. You can also disconnect UnitedRigs from your Google Account (Security → Third-party connections) or Facebook (Settings & privacy → Apps and websites) at any time.

Some U.S. states give their residents specific privacy rights. We give these same choices to everyone, and we won’t treat you differently for using them.

12. Security

The whole site uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Passwords are stored hashed, only a few people can use the admin side of the site, service keys stay on our server, and the server has a firewall. No website can promise perfect security, so please use a strong password you don’t use anywhere else. If we learn of a breach that affects your information, we’ll tell you as the law requires.

13. Age

You must be 18 or older to create an account. The site isn’t meant for children, and we don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we’ll delete it.

14. Visitors outside the United States

UnitedRigs is run from the United States and our website is hosted there. Videos are delivered through Bunny’s servers around the world. By using the site from another country, you understand your information will be handled in the United States and by the providers listed above.

15. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll post the new version here and update the effective date at the top. If a change is important — for example, if we start using your information in a new way — we’ll also put a notice on the site and email members before it takes effect.
